Tech Layoffs 2025: Accenture Restructures Workforce Amid $865M AI Push
Accenture, one of the world’s largest consulting and IT services companies, is undergoing a major transformation as it adapts to rapid changes in artificial intelligence (AI) and global market conditions. The firm has confirmed that more than 11,000 jobs have been cut worldwide in recent months, forming part of an $865 million restructuring program designed to reshape its operations for the AI era.
Why the Layoffs?
The move reflects Accenture’s shift from traditional reskilling programs toward building a leaner, AI-focused workforce. With corporations tightening IT budgets and increasing reliance on automation, the company is prioritizing agility and cost efficiency. CEO Julie Sweet emphasized that while every new wave of technology requires upskilling, the current pace of AI adoption has made it necessary to also streamline operations.
Investment in Agentic AI Training
Alongside the job reductions, Accenture is investing heavily in training programs to prepare its remaining employees for the future of work. Reports suggest that more than 70,000 employees are currently being trained in “agentic AI” — an advanced form of artificial intelligence designed to handle autonomous decision-making and execution of complex tasks.
This dual approach highlights Accenture’s strategy: reduce redundancy while simultaneously nurturing high-value AI skills within its global workforce of over 700,000 employees.
Financial Performance and Outlook
Despite the restructuring, Accenture reported strong financial results for its latest quarter, with revenues of $17.6 billion, surpassing analyst expectations. However, the company revised its growth outlook, now projecting 2–5% revenue growth through FY26, slightly below earlier forecasts. Analysts link this cautious stance to uncertain global economic conditions and restrained IT spending by enterprises.
